Mark R. Schlegel joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2001 as an associate attorney and was elected to the partnership in 2009. He is a member of the litigation department and provides support to other associates and partners at the firm on a wide array of different cases covering a broad spectrum of law. Mark is also a member of the firm's immigration law practice group where he represents individuals in removal proceedings before the executive Office of Immigration Review.

Mark received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with a concentration in Science & Technology Studies from Cornell University in 1995. He then went on to study at Syracuse University College of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in December 1999. Mark was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2000.

Mark is a member of the Onondaga County, New York State and American Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyer Project.

Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Mark worked as a solo practitioner where he managed a steadily increasing number of cases common to the general practice of law in this area including traffic infractions, misdemeanors, landlord/tenant disputes, wills and powers of attorney, while engaged in search for permanent law firm employment. In addition, Mark worked as a Technical Assistant at Laboratory Alliance of Central New York (LACNY), where he was responsible for preparing a wide variety of pathological specimens for medical testing and the transmission of confidential results to hospitals and other health care professionals.

When Mark has a few moments to spare, he spends his time studying Astronomy and military history, writing and making short films.
