Mark R. Schlegel joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2001 as an associate attorney
and was elected to the partnership in 2009. He is a member of the litigation
department and provides support to other associates and partners at the
firm on a wide array of different cases covering a broad spectrum of law.
Mark is also a member of the firm's immigration law practice group where
he represents individuals in removal proceedings before the executive
Office of Immigration Review.
Mark received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with a concentration
in Science & Technology Studies from Cornell University in 1995. He
then went on to study at Syracuse University College of Law, where he
graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in December 1999. Mark was
admitted to the New York State Bar in 2000.
Mark is a member of the Onondaga County, New York State and American
Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association
Volunteer Lawyer Project.
Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Mark worked as a solo practitioner
where he managed a steadily increasing number of cases common to the general
practice of law in this area including traffic infractions, misdemeanors,
landlord/tenant disputes, wills and powers of attorney, while engaged
in search for permanent law firm employment. In addition, Mark worked
as a Technical Assistant at Laboratory Alliance of Central New York (LACNY),
where he was responsible for preparing a wide variety of pathological
specimens for medical testing and the transmission of confidential results
to hospitals and other health care professionals.
When Mark has a few moments to spare, he spends his time studying Astronomy
and military history, writing and making short films.
