Jacqueline B. Jones joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2000 and is now a partner
in the firm's business department. Her practice focuses on labor and employment
litigation in federal and state courts, including employment discrimination,
wrongful termination and breach of contract actions. She also appears in
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Division of Human Rights actions.
She successfully defends clients during workplace investigations by the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Department of Labor.
She drafts employment contracts and separation agreements and counsels businesses
and municipalities to ensure their policies and practices are in compliance
with employment laws and regulations as well. In addition, she represents
employers in all aspects of the labor-management relationship including
collective bargaining, arbitration and compliance with the National Labor
Relations Act.
Jackie is also a member of the firm's immigration law practice
group where she has experience in counseling employers on I-9
verification and compliance and analyzing the application of employer
sanctions for INS violations of the INA as it pertains to employers.
In addition, she has spoken to groups on the IRCA & other
immigration employment violations.
Frequently, Jackie speaks at seminars for employers and supervisors
concerning all aspects of the employment relationship including
proper hiring and discharge practices, sexual harassment, employment
discrimination and compliance with the Occupational Safety and
Health Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans' with
Disabilities Act and wage and hour laws.
Jackie received a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University
where she completed a dual major in Public Relations and Law and
Public Policy in 1991. She then went on to study at the University
at Buffalo School of Law, where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate
in 1994. While a student at the University at Buffalo School of
Law, Jackie was a member of the Jessup Moot Court Board. She received
the Best Oralist Award from the Jessup Moot Court Intramural Competition
in 1992 and in 1993, she received the Best Oralist Award at the
Fasken, Campbell & Godfrey Competition. In addition, she received
the Best Oralist Award from the National Environmental Moot Court
Competition, PACE Law School in 1994. She was also a member of
the Environmental Law Journal and the Environmental Clinic. Jackie
was admitted to the New York Bar in 1995, and in 1999 she was
admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District
of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Western District
of New York.
Jackie is a member of the Onondaga County, New York State and
American Bar Associations. She is also a member of the Women's
Bar Association of the State of New York, the Central New York
Chapter of the Industrial Relations Research Association and is
the Legislative Chairperson to the Central New York Society for
Human Resource Management Board. She is involved in the Central
New York Council on Occupational Safety and Health and the Volunteer
Lawyers Project. Jackie had an article published in the Central
New York Business Journal on February, 16, 2001, titled, "Full
Impact of New Ergonomics Standards Remains to be Seen."
Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Jackie was an attorney at
a local law firm, where she worked on labor arbitration hearings
and National Labor Relations Board proceedings. She also has experience
in appellate practice before federal and state courts, incorporating
small businesses, and drafting contracts, wills and trusts.
When Jackie has a few moments to spare, she enjoys spending time
in the Thousand Islands, traveling, swimming, playing soccer and
attending musicals.
